Day of the Dead

Since it hasn't been mentioned...
I'm pretty certain that both Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Dawn of the Dead (1978) have been shown in Portland in the last few years but I've never seen a showing of Day of the Dead. Sure it hasn't been remade (yet) but it's a solid and influential film and very creepy and disturbing in its own right. It may not be my top pick for a Zompire film, but in the right combination of films it might be a perfect fit.

Bigmac64 — Thu, 07/03/2008 - 20:45Yea, the soldiers are all played like Chuck Heston was channeling the actors, but I really don't know if they could have underplayed it and have the film still work. Those guys seem like the type who would push the limits once they gained any position of power. And the scene were Rhodes orders the one to shoot the heroine shows how false the macho swagger is.
It's worth considering. The gore effects have yet to be topped (in my opinion) and the movie has seldom seen a large screen since it's initial release. Will likely be a crowd pleaser (and maybe a crowd thinner by the final act!).

You WILL have people walking away from the theater murmuring "C'mere, Buuuuub" and snarling "Choke on it!"
Acting of the Dead
Festival Director — Wed, 05/14/2008 - 21:51Not my top pick. The "soldiers" are just so over the top that I had a hard time with the film. Liked the location and "Bub" and Dr. F but the fact that not one of the men in uniform ever acted liked it really marred the film for me. Of course with enough beer it could work.

Most movies fit this category nicely. 8)
Fair enough
specialj — Fri, 05/16/2008 - 03:36But I found the soldiers is Day of the Dead much more believable than those in the 28 Days/Weeks movies.
Not my top pick either but some day I'd like to see it on a movie screen.
Funny. I thought the opposite
