While we loved every single one of the films we played at Zompire (took place Oct 4-5 at the Clinton St. Theater), we made some very very hard choices and gave awards in four categories:
- The Horde Award - Our Audience Choice Award, chosen by blind ballot at the end of the festival by our attendees.
- The Abby Normal Award - Chosen by our jury for films that showcase a fresh perspective or other innovation.
- Le Gran' Zombi - Awarded for overall excellence in Independent film.
- Tombe D'Or - Awarded to the top film that best exemplifies the mission of Zompire.
To find out who won (and for the sake of suspense), watch our Awards video below:
We'll post the results later, for the sake of posterity. Physical awards will be completed and shipped in the next 1-2 weeks, and laurels will be mailed to awarded filmmakers shortly.
See you next year!

Zompire happened on October 4th and 5th at the Clinton St. Theater, and it was A BLAST! Thanks to everyone who came, our volunteers, and all of the filmmakers who submitted their films and made this a kickass Independent-only festival!
Our next event is the Best of the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival, featuring Re-Animator on 35mm at the Hollywood Theatre, October 18th and 19th. On Friday, October 18th, we're showing a block of some of the best short films from years past, and even a few from THE FUTURE, plus one of our favorites, AM1200 on 35mm film! Then, on Saturday, October 19th, we're starting with one more short film and finishing with a spectacularly rare screening on the original Re-Animator on 35mm. SCREENING PREMIERE in Portland OR — Come to the opening night of Midnight Movie in Portland dressed as your favorite horror character and enter for FREE!! Short film to screen before Midnight Movie: Black Santa’s Revenge by David Walker
November 7th and 8th at 11pm
Cinema 21 • 616 NW 21st Ave • Portland, Oregon 97209 • 503-223-4515 •
Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead, The Devil's Rejects) stars in this two-fisted tale of holiday mayhem based on the popular comic book story!!! When a gang of sadistic criminals steals all the toys from the community center, it looks like Christmas will be ruined for a lot of boys and girls. Only one man, Black Santa (Foree), can save the day by unleashing his deadly yuletide vengeance! Written, produced and directed by David Walker, creator of the pop culture magazine BadAzz MoFo, BLACK SANTA'S REVENGE is filled with all the classic elements of exploitation cinema—graphic violence, gratuitous nudity, and tons of profanity—all crammed into a 20-minute running time. http://www.blacksantamovie.com
Midnight Movie is a slasher film set in a run-down theater in a sleepy, suburban town. A group of friends attend a midnight screening of a 1970s cult horror film and heckle the old black-and-white scenes. The film turns deadly when the killer emerges from the screen to hunt down each viewer one-by-one. Homage to ‘80s slasher films, Midnight Movie generates a scary, funny duality using traditional special effects and recreates iconic scenes from cult classics to provoke a nostalgic reaction from horror movie fans. The film is Bigfoot Entertainment’s first horror movie and will be distributed in North America, Germany, Greece, Thailand and Japan. http://www.midnightmovie.com/
